Artificial Intelligence at Denovo | Terni, Central Italy

Artificial intelligence is one of Denovo’s four R&D streams, alongside mechatronics, blockchain and cybersecurity. From Terni we develop machine learning algorithms, vision pipelines and models running on edge devices, for clients across Central Italy and the entire EU.

What we work on

The main specialisation is edge AI: models running directly on the physical device, without relying on cloud or data centres. It means working with dedicated NPUs, neural network quantisation, low-latency inference pipelines, contained energy budgets.

The flagship public project is ABC (AI Book Cataloguer): an edge-AI system for automatic book cataloguing, based on the Axelera AI Metis NPU. Selected in 2025 among the top 10 European projects in the Smarter Spaces Project Challenge.

Combinations with the other streams

• AI and mechatronics: adaptive control systems that learn from operational events and optimise production parameters;
• AI and cybersecurity: anomaly detection on network flows, behavioural monitoring, event correlation support;
• AI and blockchain: oracles bringing off-chain data and inferences into smart contracts, with cryptographic guarantees.

How we work

We do not resell pre-packaged models. We train and tune our models on the client’s data, with attention to privacy, energy efficiency and portability. Code stays with the client, training pipelines are documented and reproducible.

Our base is in Terni, Umbria. As an Italian innovative startup we work across the entire EU single market plus Switzerland.
